Content Notes: Death, animated violence, PTSD, brainwashing, a nanotech-virus, occasional zombies, some dystopian elements, and some racially insensitive attitudes in the narrative [but not from the characters]

Let Me Tell You About It: Setting: Earth has been ravaged by war, so all the nations created space colonies, and everyone who could afford it fled to them. In order to try and 'fix' the problem of war, they have decided to settle their differences by way of the Gundam Fight. The Fight happens every four years, and calls for every country to send a Gundam and a fighter to control it with a motion-capture cockpit, and they spend a year battling it out, and the last one standing gives his nation the right to rule all the others for the next four years.

Earth is the ring.

The other thing to know is the presence of a secret quasi-mystical society called the Shuffle Alliance, which has existed throughout time for the purpose of overseeing wars and making sure humanity survives. There are five at any given time, mapped to card ranks, and they are magically 'chosen' rather than deciding to join.

Domon Kasshu, a young martial artist and the Shuffle Alliance's newest King of Hearts, didn't choose to represent Neo-Japan in the Gundam Fight; the military chose him, so that he could apprehend his fugitive brother Kyoji - who has run off with a top-secret nanotech weapon - without involving anyone else, and they promise that if Domon wins the tournament, they will release his father from cryogenic prison. With his childhood friend Rain as his crew, Domon has to find his brother and fight his way to the top, only to find that the stolen weapon has taken on a life of its own…

The characters are so dang charming, you guys. This show celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2024. It's very impassioned power-of-friendship/love stuff, and even at its most logically ridiculous really lands the emotional beats to sell the scene. Pure pathos, really. (Non-spoilery examples of this include the entire concept of "communicating with your fists", the empathic bond between the Shuffle Alliance, tears from every one of our leads, a couple different spins on the classic "I know you're in there" fight, and the moment you realize that Domon's pre-attack speeches are actually pretty poetic.) Also, though it runs on Rule of Cool a lot, it is still a Gundam series, so it's no stranger to politics, having something surprisingly poignant to say about humanity, societal inequality, and our beloved planet Earth.

I'm also given to understand that we can pimp rarepairs within our small fandoms, and so as the person responsible for either writing or requesting just about everything my ship has, I have a beginner-friendly video manifesto:

Brief Synopsis/Genre: Four friends track down supernatural content for their website while also trying to solve a more personal mystery.

Content Notes: The first ep shows the main character finding his brother's body after suicide. There's also a lot of hand-held camera action, since this followed on the heels of The Blair Witch Project.

Let Me Tell You About It: I loved this show from the very first episode. Derek Barnes (played by Ethan Embry) is the main character. He was working with his twin brother Adam on a website collecting stories of the supernatural and urban legends when his brother unexpectedly killed himself. Derek took over the website and jazzed it up to make it more popular. He works with his best friend Jason, Lan who handles the tech and has a crush on Derek, and Chloe, who was engaged to Derek's brother and is a psychologist.

There's a lot of good spooky stuff in here, and a lot of humor, but also complex relationships (the effects of Chloe working on dubious cases often puts her actual job in jeopardy). The show has an additional series arc about Adam, who may not be dead after all. If he's not, why is he hiding and how did he so convincingly fake his own death? Both Derek and Chloe have a lot of feels about Adam and everything that happened with him. There's also a recurring character named Vince who pops in and out, being enigmatic about what he knows and how he knows it. Please note: This arc never gets resolved because of the show getting canceled.

More Information/Links: This series has never been available to stream or buy on DVD, and that really ticks me off. I had most of the eps taped off the TV on a VHS tape, but that gave up the ghost a couple of years ago. YouTube is the only place you can find all 13 episodes.

May 2026 Small Fandoms Canon Promofest

Dates: May 1st-May 15th

What is it? A fest where participants promote their small fandoms.

What is the definition of a "small fandom"? For this community, a small fandom is on the honor system. If you feel it's a small fandom, then it is welcome. This is because some fandoms attract tiny but prolific pools of creators, or creators in only a certain medium, etc. and it can be kind of silly to use a single outside source as validation. Also, for this fest, "dead" fandoms are welcome even if they were once quite large but are small now. If you can say, without hesitation, that your fandom is currently small, it is welcome.

What if my fandom is a spin-off/side-story/etc. of [x], a larger fandom? That's fine as long as it can be enjoyed on its own without any greater knowledge of the canon it spun off of.

Where do I post? Please post to the community using the template that follows. (Please post any large images or other media under a cut. You're also welcome to post some or all of your general post under a cut if you'd like, for the sake of spoilers/content, length, or just because.)

What if I write more than one promo? Fantastic! Please write as many as you'd like.

What about rare pairing? You are welcome to talk about specific characters or ships within your small fandom. If it's a rare pairing in a larger fandom, this isn't the place for it.

Are there sign-ups? Nope! Just go ahead and promo.
